To enjoy autumn, EDGE España presents a seventh issue packed with content. The cover (and a special back cover) features Cyberpunk 2077.
EDGE España is a magazine with a spine and good-quality paper, featuring 116 pages packed with the best insights into the video game industry. The content covers October and November 2018.
With the arrival of autumn comes EDGE’s first anniversary in this new chapter in Spain. What better way to celebrate than by dedicating the cover of issue 7 to Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s new titan, which looks set to revolutionise the genre when it is released. We speak to the development team in an extensive feature where we discover more about one of the most ambitious projects of the coming years
But what would EDGE be without an extra handful of features? Aside from the one already mentioned, we look back to select the pioneers: those video games which, through their strong influence, marked the starting point for many of the things we now perceive as commonplace in other titles. We also have time to explore a subject that is rarely covered: architecture. It is more important to modern and classic games than we might imagine, which is why we dedicate several pages to it, chatting with professionals from the industry.
And, now that we’re talking about chatting, two in-depth interviews define this issue. The first is with Brendan Greene, creator of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, who is worried about the reactions to what he is preparing next. The second is with Mercedes Rey, one of the most important national representatives of the industry, with extensive experience in major projects and a pioneering educational spirit. At the same time, and focusing more on games, we profile Frontier Developments and close the magazine by remembering NieR: Automata in Extra Time.
Of course, we don’t simply close there; there is much more inside. In HYPE, we cover the recent Soul Calibur VI, the latest instalment in the legendary fighting franchise, which returns after 5 years, as well as games such as Hitman 2, Twin Mirror and Anthem, Bioware’s ambitious project. GRIS could not be missing either: the Spanish title from Nomada Studio and Devolver Digital offers us exquisite visuals and a narrative proposition that we have yet to discover. And yes, Devil May Cry 5 takes centre stage in this section, but CAPCOM’s hack and slash is not the most important game of the moment. Of course, we mean Red Dead Redemption 2, ROCKSTAR’s new giant, which looks set to push the current sandbox to its limits.
As for the reviews, three pillars have dominated our attention in PLAY: Marvel’s Spider-Man, Dragon Quest XI and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. That is without overlooking other works such as We Happy Few, Guacamelee! 2, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and F1 2018. We certainly don’t have space to spare, but we’re not leaving without talking about Forza Horizon 4, NBA 2K19, Slime Rancher and Slaps and Beans. As you’ll see, there is plenty of variety to choose from.
Finally, our national contributors help us pause to reflect on the industry and current affairs. We have Pixel Perfect (with Javier Rodríguez, former head of marketing for SEGA in Spain, Virgin and Activision), First Personal Shot (with Eva Cid), Paroxismo (with Sergio Bustos) and VOXEL (with José Altozano ‘DAYO’).
