The new hybrid generation
Nintendo launched its new console in June 2025 to succeed one of the most successful consoles in history. Nintendo kept the winning formula intact –playing on TV, tabletop or handheld– and put all the effort into power and image quality: a custom NVIDIA processor, a 7.9-inch LCD screen with HDR10 and 120 Hz, 4K output in the dock, and 256 GB of internal storage.
The most striking change is the Joy-Con 2: they attach magnetically and introduce an optical sensor that lets you use them as a mouse on any flat surface, opening the door to genres that until now didn't fit well on a console.
What you'll find in this section
We've grouped the entire new-generation catalogue into four blocks:
- Consoles and bundles: the console on its own and the various bundles with games, extra Joy-Con, camera or microSD Express.
- Games: exclusives like Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza, upgraded editions and pre-orders for upcoming releases.
- Accessories: Joy-Con 2, controllers, microSD Express cards, cases, screen protectors and the official camera.
- eShop codes: downloadable content, expansion passes and games in digital format.
Why make the jump to the new generation
If you're coming from the original Switch, there are three reasons that usually tip the scales:
- You don't lose your library. The console is backward compatible with most of the previous catalogue, both physical and digital, and many titles run better without doing anything.
- New-generation exclusives. Games like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza or Kirby Air Riders only work on the Switch 2.
- The visual leap is real. Going from 720p to 1080p on the go with HDR and 120 Hz, and from 1080p to 4K on TV, is noticeable from the first minute.
And if you'd rather stay on the previous generation, that still makes complete sense: check out the previous generation section, with a well-established catalogue and tighter prices.
Pre-orders and new releases
Being a recent console, a good part of the catalogue moves through pre-orders and launches. In this section you'll find both titles already available and reservations for upcoming games, so you don't miss any important release.
Frequently asked questions
When did the console launch?
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on 5 June 2025 as the direct successor to the original Nintendo Switch.
Do my games from the previous console work here?
Yes. The console is backward compatible with most of the original Switch's physical and digital catalogue. Some titles also get specific improvements through editions labelled Switch 2 Edition.
What's the difference compared to the Switch OLED?
The new model has a bigger LCD screen (7.9" versus 7"), supports 120 Hz and HDR, offers 4K in the dock, has a much more powerful processor, and has 256 GB internal versus the OLED's 64 GB. The OLED retains purer colour on the go thanks to its panel type, but it belongs to the previous generation.
Do I need new accessories?
Some, yes. Joy-Con, cases and docks from the previous model aren't compatible due to the change in size and attachment system. On the other hand, amiibo, HDMI cables and 3.5mm jack headphones keep working without issue.
What memory card does it use?
Only microSD Express cards. Traditional microSD cards can store screenshots and videos, but they don't let you install or run games here.
