The cold has arrived late, but it has arrived. So what better than to seek shelter in the warmth of the rising sun? That is the main focus of the second issue of EDGE in Spain, which features Japan and the ambitious Monster Hunter World on its cover.
The cold arrived late, but it has arrived. So what better than to take shelter beneath the warmth of the rising sun? That is the main focus of the second issue of EDGE in Spain, which features a cover starring Japan and the ambitious Monster Hunter World. In the pages inside, we dissect the title and CAPCOM's proposal with the help of its developers, to better understand the process of bringing a franchise acclimatised to handhelds to the most powerful platforms on the market.
We took advantage of our visit to Japanese territory to make sure we didn't miss the opportunity to talk about other video games making the headlines. This is the case with Dragon Ball FighterZ, which gets an extensive feature highlighting the importance of equilibrium and balance in the fighting genre. We dive headfirst into Nintendo to meet its own Super Smash Bros: the key people responsible for the company's recent major developments. In this way, we profile Kenta Motokura (Super Mario Odyssey), Kosuke Yabuki (Mario Kart 8 and Arms), Hisashi Nogami (Splatoon 2) and Hidemaro Fujibasayi (The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild). More industry names? We introduce you to Takuya Iwasaki and, in the Complete Works section of this second issue, we look back at Fumito Ueda's career, one of the most influential geniuses in video game history.
At the public's request, we have reduced the number of previews to give more prominence to features, which is why we don't just cover Japan. Pages and pages of Far Cry 5 allow us to discuss the evolution of the series and the contentious premise it explores. Even so, the HYPE section is far from lacking. The pirate life comes calling with Sea of Thieves and Skull & Bones, we turn the spotlight on Code Vein, Aragami: Nightfall and Vane, and we discuss the triple-A scene itself with Detroit: Become Human and The Crew 2. We round things off with brief comments on The Last of Us: Part II, L.A. Noire, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2, Pokémon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon and Sky, the latest game from Thatgamecompany.
PLAY helps us appreciate the variety of titles we've received in this final part of 2017. We have reviews of major releases such as Super Mario Odyssey, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and The Evil Within II. Driving also takes centre stage with Gran Turismo Sport, Gear.Club Unlimited and Forza Motorsport 7, but the titan of MICROSOFT is Cuphead, which has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Episode 2 of Life is Strange: Before the Storm fulfils its purpose, and we have time to look back at two Spanish-developed games: The Fall of Lazarus and Numantia.
Xbox One X has our attention. Through a mature and extensive article, we deliver the final verdict on the most powerful console in history. We also interview Luis Quintans, the new president of the DEV, explain how Unepic was made and take the extra time to remember Luigi’s Mansion 2.
National contributors once again take centre stage in issue 2: Pixel Perfect (with Javier Rodríguez, former head of marketing for SEGA in Spain, Virgin and Activision), Woman’s Sky (with Laura Gómez, known as Azul Corrosivo), Outconsumer (with Roc Massaguer), Paroxismo (with Sergio Bustos), Semidioses (with Ferran González) and Voxel (with José Altozano/Dayo). AnaitGames also returns in the next issue, which will arrive in two months.
