Joy-Con controllers include the same buttons and triggers as a traditional controller. The difference? You can use them in many ways, together or separately.

How you play depends on the game. Some games will work with classic controls. Others may require you to use a single Joy-Con vertically or horizontally. Or to hold one Joy-Con in each hand.

When the Joy-Con are removed from the Nintendo Switch console, they communicate using Bluetooth.
The Joy-Con include a gyroscope and an accelerometer. In addition, the right Joy-Con includes an infrared motion camera that can detect the distance, size and movement of nearby objects. For example, it can detect how far away your hand is and whether you are making “rock, paper, scissors”.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con feature a new HD rumble system that conveys a much greater sense of realism when vibrating. Imagine that the Joy-Con is a glass filled with ice cubes. With HD rumble, when you tilt or move the Joy-Con, you can feel how many there are and how the ice cubes collide.

Nintendo Switch supports up to eight wireless controllers connected at the same time. How many controllers can be connected will depend on the game.
