Advanced 11 v 11 match capture
For the first time, Xsens suits have enabled us to capture the movements of 22 professional footballers playing at high intensity. This huge volume of high-quality data obtained from real people defines player and team movement in FIFA 22.

Machine learning
Our cutting-edge machine-learning algorithm draws on information from more than 8.7 million frames of advanced match capture and generates new animations in real time, making on-pitch interactions more organic and even more responsive.

Authentic team movement
The unprecedented advancement represented by Xsens suits has enabled us to record data from 22 footballers playing at the highest level for the first time. All the data obtained from touches, tackles, sprints and duels represents the biggest animation update in FIFA history. More than 4000 new animations have been added (three times as many as in FIFA 21), raising the bar for footballing intensity, responsiveness and physical presence for all players, showcasing the most realistic movements ever seen in EA SPORTS FIFA.

ML - Flow algorithm
Our machine-learning algorithm reinvents how animations work in sports video games, delivering an unparalleled level of fluidity and realism. The ML - Flow algorithm generates new animations in real time thanks to more than 8.7 million frames obtained through advanced 11 v 11 match capture. This allows players to better adjust the distance they cover with each stride and their speed as they approach the ball to control it or shoot with absolute precision.

Tactical AI
Tactical artificial intelligence, made possible by the power of next-generation consoles, improves the game awareness of all 22 footballers, who better understand formations and the movements of both their team-mates and opponents to take their strategies to the next level. When attacking, players can now make up to six times more decisions per second, making them more aware of their surroundings, moving more intelligently to build plays and reacting faster when the ball is loose. And thanks to reprogrammed defensive AI, teams now behave as a unit and maintain their formation as they move up the pitch and cover empty spaces.

Kinetic aerial battles
Improvements to the technology managing interactions between two players synchronise animations and improve realism and responsiveness when they jump to win the ball. Get ready to see defenders and attackers push, pull and grapple as they attempt to control crosses, clearances and long passes. All of this results in more realistic battles when it comes to reaching the ball first and controlling it with their head.

Composed ball control
New animations make ball control in FIFA 22 more natural and fluid than ever. Two-touch animations are longer and make it easier to control aerial balls, provide greater agility when intercepting low shots and increase strength when shielding the ball from opponents. This gives you more options for maintaining your momentum when attacking.

Player humanisation
Advanced 11 v 11 match capture improves player animations and behaviours when they do not have possession of the ball. You will see opponents talking, pointing and communicating with one another based on the actions they perform, alongside movement that changes according to the intensity and need to reach the ball. All of this makes FIFA more realistic and immersive than ever.

A new system increases the intelligence of goalkeepers as the last line of defence, which is why they now save shots more reliably and make better decisions between the posts. Ball physics
Real-world data integrated into FIFA 22 makes ball physics more realistic than ever. Adjustments to parameters such as speed, spin, drag and air resistance, friction against the ground and rolling resistance ensure that every touch, feint, shot, volley, pass and dribble feels true to life.

Explosive sprint
Explosive sprint is a new gameplay mechanic that changes the dynamics of one-on-one situations, giving you more control over acceleration when dribbling or defending. Draw your opponents in and choose when you want to sprint at full speed to get away from the defence and launch an attack with your team.

New attacking tactics
New attacking tactics give you more control over how your team plays.
