Players take on the role of Jim, a drilling-rig pilot for a utility company who left Earth to embark on a risky but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Working for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC), which is preparing the planet for colonisation, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Coronis base and begins surveying the uncharted terrain, obtaining samples of the planet's energy supply – Thermal Energy.
