You are a member of the Free Swords, a group of mercenaries feared throughout Vertiel. When the Deadwalkers burst into a ritual organised by your latest clients, things turn nasty and you end up literally possessed by a fire demon. After your initial surprise, and that of your companions, you begin to feel the demon's power coursing through your veins... But such power, should you choose to use it, comes at a high price: your own humanity.

Bound by Flame is a heroic fantasy RPG in which you will control a mercenary possessed by a flame demon. You must choose between the demonic power that grips you and your own humanity. If you choose the latter, you will have to reject its infernal influence and develop your true heroic abilities. As you face increasingly terrifying enemies and dangers, the temptation to give the demon another part of your soul in exchange for greater power will also grow... and the more you do so, the more obvious your physical transformation will become.

Thus, depending on what you decide regarding your demonic host, the same chapter will offer you different experiences, missions and storylines. The real-time battles are as dynamic as they are spectacular. Although you will begin your adventure by mastering the fundamentals of combat, assassination and, shortly afterwards, fire magic, you will then be able to specialise by unlocking and improving the many abilities available in each of the three talent trees.

Bound by Flame's crafting system allows you to create and improve your equipment. During your adventure, various companions will join you. It will be up to you whether your relationship with each of them develops into friendship, romance or rivalry. Finally, Bound by Flame features a rich and spectacular bestiary, made up of a multitude of astonishing creatures: liches, undead, ice monsters, giant siege beasts... Get ready to fight them all in countless epic battles! So... what will you decide? Will you succumb to the temptation of demonic power and magic, or will you rely on your combat skills and courage?

In Bound by Flame, real-time combat combines tactical, dynamic and spectacular abilities. The encounters are demanding, requiring both tactics and reflexes. Although charging into battle without any plan of action may be tempting, it is far better to have a strategy in place, lest opponents who initially seemed simple end up overwhelming you.

You have a full range of attacks and movements at your disposal and, depending on your specialisation, special abilities and magic that will help you bring down your opponents. Block or dodge their attacks, counterattack, break their guard, stun them... or forget subtlety and incinerate them with the flames of your demonic powers! Whichever you choose, you must always remain alert. Your enemies will fight as a team and attack you from behind at the slightest opportunity. So watch your positioning and keep your enemies in sight at all times.

Each time you level up, you will earn skill points that you can spend as you please in any of the three talent trees. These three trees correspond to the three combat facets of your character: Martial Techniques represent your skill in using two-handed weapons; Fire Magic allows you to improve your demonic fire spells; finally, the Path of Shadow corresponds to your ability to equip daggers and melt into the night. Choose wisely when spending your skill points and you will be able to specialise, gain new powers or improve various abilities.
