A CLASSIC CONCEPT WITH A TWIST
Under Defeat is a vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up in which you control a helicopter capable of moving in eight directions. It is a sophisticated and streamlined experience with just two buttons —one for shooting and one for bombing— making it easy to learn but difficult to master. What sets the game apart is its tilt mechanic: as you turn, your shots veer slightly to the left or right, allowing for strategic, angled attacks. It also features a small optional satellite-like unit that fires independently. However, to charge it, you will need to release the fire button for a moment, creating tactical shifts rarely seen in this relentless shoot-'em-up genre.

NEW ADDITIONS
There is a big difference between an arcade game and one played at home, and Under Defeat has received several new additions since its arcade debut in 2005. New Order mode adapts the game to a modern 16:9 format. This version now features sharper textures and four soundtracks to choose from, including a new one by original composer Shinji Hosoe, known for his work on Ridge Racer, Tekken, Street Fighter EX and SuperSweep, among many others. Naturally, if you want an authentic experience, you can still play Under Defeat in its original arcade format. How you enjoy this grand festival of action is entirely up to you!

A DELIGHT FROM THE PAST
Under Defeat is a true classic. Developed by G.rev, the game first appeared in Japanese arcades almost two decades ago. Over the years, it has made its way to several platforms. In particular, it was released on Dreamcast in 2006, long after official support for the console had ended. This 2024 edition is the definitive version of the game, as it contains all previous content, meticulously adapted by genre veterans.

ENDLESS WAR
Under Defeat does not plunge you into an incomprehensible, nonsensical science-fiction universe. Instead, it offers a mostly realistic depiction of a futuristic past. Specifically, you pilot a helicopter in an endless war between the German-speaking Empire and the English-speaking Union, a conflict that has been wreaking havoc for more than a decade. Both sides have suffered heavy losses and are exhausted, but peace remains difficult to achieve. Will this destructive conflict ever end? You will have to play to find out!
